Dhaka: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today emphasized the government's stance against misinformation in official statistics, highlighting the necessity of accurate data for developing effective public policies. He assured that the government remains committed to transparency and clarity in information dissemination.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister addressed this issue at a press meet following the closing ceremony of a three-day national conference titled 'Navigating Five Year Strategic Framework for Achieving SDGs: Policy, Partnership and Priorities' held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center. The event gathered policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to discuss Bangladesh's strategic framework and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In response to inquiries regarding the latest inflation figure of 8.32 percent for July and public skepticism about its accuracy, Minister Amir Khosru emphasized the government's dedication to providing precise information. He stated that the authorities are instructed to deliver accurate data to enable informed policy-making. The minister personally verified some data, noting a decrease in rice and meat prices, and confirmed that the latest inflation figures were thoroughly reviewed before their release.
He reiterated the importance of reliable statistics for the government to make informed policy decisions. Additionally, State Minister for Planning Md. Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki announced plans for future discussions with journalists to explain the methodology behind inflation measurement and address any concerns regarding data reliability. The conference concluded with a focus on strategic frameworks and priorities essential for achieving the SDGs.
