Dhaka: Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced today that the government is set to implement significant reforms in the education sector, focusing on a new curriculum and enhanced teacher training. This initiative aims to elevate the country’s education system to meet international standards.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Milon articulated these plans at the annual general meeting and reception programme of the IIUM Alumni Bangladesh Chapter, held at a hotel in the capital. He emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing education by developing a new curriculum and reforming teacher training systems. The minister highlighted the importance of adopting educational models from countries like Malaysia, China, and the United States to address future challenges.

The minister underscored the necessity of converting Bangladesh’s large youth population into a skilled workforce. He stated, “Bangladesh is one of the most populous countries in the world and our greatest asset is human resources. We must develop our young generation into a skilled workforce.” Furthermore, Dr. Milon revealed that the government is considering increasing the education sector’s budget allocation to five percent of the GDP.

Addressing the issue of brain drain, Dr. Milon noted that many talented Bangladeshis pursue higher education abroad but do not return home. He urged for a “reverse brain drain” to ensure that these individuals contribute to the nation’s development. The minister expressed optimism that Bangladeshis educated abroad would play a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s education sector.

The event also saw the participation of Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman, Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed, Lawmaker Shamim Qaiser Lincoln, and Lawmaker Atikur Rahman Mujahid, who attended as special guests. Professor Dr. Kazi Shahadat Kabir chaired the programme.

Additionally, a new executive committee for the IIUM Alumni Bangladesh Chapter was formed during the event. A 19-member committee for the 2026-2028 term was announced, with Dr. Muhammad Abdul Aziz appointed as president and Dr. M Tuhin Mia as general secretary.
