Dhaka: Commerce, Industries and Jute and Textiles Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir announced a significant government initiative to boost Bangladesh's export capabilities by waiving booth rent fees for small entrepreneurs participating in international trade fairs. This move, aimed at expanding the reach of small businesses in global markets, was revealed during a debriefing session concerning the 10th China-South Asia Expo and the 30th China-Kunming Import-Export Fair 2026, held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Muktadir emphasized the critical role that small entrepreneurs play in the export sector. However, he acknowledged that financial barriers often prevent these businesses from showcasing their products overseas. The initiative to waive booth rent is part of a broader government strategy to support small businesses and facilitate their participation in global trade events.
In his address, Muktadir highlighted the government's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment. He announced that the validity of trade licenses would be extended to five years and revealed the development of an online system to allow businesspeople to obtain trade licenses from home, thereby streamlining the process.
The minister also engaged with entrepreneurs who participated in the Kunming fair, gathering feedback and assuring them of ongoing government support to enhance their export competitiveness. The session was presided over by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman and CEO Mohammad Hasan Arif, with Commerce Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan attending as a special guest.
Prominent figures such as Bangladesh Multi-Purpose Jute Products Manufacturers and Exporters Association President Md. Rashedul Karim Munna and Footwear and Leathergoods Manufacturers and Exporters Association Vice-President Md. Nasir Khan also shared their insights at the event. Additionally, the minister and other guests unveiled the cover of a quarterly newsletter published by the EPB.
