Dhaka: The interim government has announced plans to recruit 2,000 fresh doctors through special Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations within this year. This initiative aims to address the critical shortage of medical professionals in the country. The announcement was made by Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with the Railways Ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the MoU outlines a collaboration between the Health and Family Welfare Ministry and the Railways Ministry to extend medical services to the general public at railway hospitals. Currently, these facilities are exclusive to railway staff. Nurjahan Begum emphasized the urgent need for more doctors and expressed hope that the recruitment process would be completed before October.
Railways Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan highlighted the current limitations of the railway hospitals, which are primarily accessible only to railway employees. He noted that the implementation of the MoU would eventually allow the general public to benefit from health services at these facilities, although it might take some time to fully realize these changes.
