Govt to purchase 1 lakh metric tons of fertilizer

The government today approved separate proposals

for importing some 1 lakh metric tons of fertilizer to meet the growing

demand of the country.

The approval came from the 8th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government

Purchase (CCGP) this year held today virtually with Finance Minister AHM

Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary

Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury said that the day’s meeting approved a total of 12

proposals.

He said following a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh

Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 metric tons

of bagged granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh with around Taka

144.56 crore.

He said that in response to the proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture,

Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure some

30,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from JSC Foreign Economic Corporation

“Prodintorg”, Russia under the 3rd lot with around Taka 150.21 crore.

Besides, BADC would import another 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from

Morocco with around Taka 304.61 crore.

The Cabinet Division additional secretary said that the meeting approved a

proposal from the Statistics and Informatics Division under which the

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) would procure 3.95 lakh tablets with

around Taka 447.78 crore from Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited under the

Tablet for CAPI for Main Census package.

He said following a proposal from the Ministry of Food, the joint venture of

Confidence Infrastructure Limited, Bangladesh and the GSI Group LLC, USA was

undertaken for setting up a steel silo for wheat with around Taka 537.57

crore under the Modern Food Storage Facilities Project (MFSP).

Besides, the meeting approved a number of variation proposals from different

ministries.
