Dhaka: Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today announced that the government will soon disclose the identities and addresses of those involved in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and prominent figure, Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. The revelation of the 'main secret' behind the murder was a key point discussed during a Core Committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case has been transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal to expedite justice for this grievous crime. Jahangir Alam expressed confidence that the trial would conclude within the current interim government's tenure. The interim government is determined to deliver justice for Hadi's murder, with law enforcement and intelligence agencies persisting in coordinated efforts to uncover the complete truth behind the incident.
Jahangir Alam cautioned against attempts by fascist allies, miscreants, and terrorists to disrupt the ongoing investigation and trial process, urging the public to refrain from actions that might empower such forces. Though significant progress has been made, not all information can be publicly shared to protect the integrity of the investigation and identify the true perpetrators and their accomplices.
In total, 11 individuals have been apprehended in connection with the Hadi murder case. Those arrested include Humayun Kabir, the father of the alleged primary suspect Faisal Karim Masud, along with other family members and associates. Six of the detained have provided confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and four witnesses have also given testimonies under the same section.
Significant evidence has been collected by law enforcement, including foreign pistols, ammunition, knives, a motorcycle with a fake number plate, as well as video and CCTV footage. Additionally, authorities discovered signed cheques worth Tk 218 crore across 53 accounts. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) shared these findings during a press briefing today. Based on the evidence and testimonies, the investigation is nearing completion, and a charge sheet is expected to be submitted by January 7, 2026.
The Core Committee meeting also addressed broader issues of law and order, preparations for the 13th National Assembly elections, and the progress of Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2. Jahangir urged political leaders to remain vigilant against opportunists and criminals infiltrating their ranks and to collaborate with law enforcement when necessary.
Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2, initiated on December 13, 2025, has led to the arrest of 9,993 individuals by December 26, with a total of 22,341 arrests during this period. Authorities recovered various firearms, ammunition, and bomb-making materials during the operation.
In other developments, the primary suspect in the Laxmipur District Election Office arson case, Md Rubel, was apprehended, and in Khulna, RAB arrested suspects linked to the shooting of a political organizer. These incidents prompted the Border Guard Bangladesh to heighten border security. Additionally, special operations in the Jashore region resulted in the arrest of 18 criminals, and allegations of religious insults in Mymensingh were noted during the briefing.
