Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today announced a forthcoming nationwide home-to-home health screening program aimed at early disease detection among the general population.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring that every citizen receives healthcare services and emphasized that no one will be deprived of healthcare. The initiative is designed to enhance public health and facilitate the early detection of serious diseases, thereby improving overall health outcomes across the country.
Speaking at the Hygiene for Health Bangladesh inauguration ceremony at Gulshan Lake Park, Sakhawat revealed that the government plans to recruit 100,000 health workers, with 80 percent being women. These health workers will visit households, focusing on educating women about breast and cervical cancer self-examinations to enable early detection and prompt treatment of these conditions.
The minister noted that health workers would carry a special medical kit during their visits, offering services such as blood pressure measurement, body weight checks, diabetes screenings, lipid profile tests, and other basic health examinations directly at people's homes.
Sakhawat also stressed the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for staying healthy, underlining that public awareness and good health are crucial for building a knowledgeable and prosperous nation.
Addressing the growing trend of cesarean section deliveries, he expressed concern over the decline in breastfeeding due to mothers' busy lifestyles and changing living patterns. This trend, he warned, could lead to severe malnutrition among children as many newborns miss out on colostrum, the nutrient-rich first breast milk.
The event was attended by Miss World Bangladesh 2026 title winner Samanjar Sayeed, Gulshan Society president Omar Sadat, National Director of Miss World Bangladesh Azra Mahmud, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation Shaheen Anam, and General Secretary of the Gulshan Society Mujibur Rahman Mridha, among others.
