Dhaka: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced that the government is set to implement a new pay scale for public servants within the year. This announcement came after a meeting at the finance ministry held at the Bangladesh Secretariat, where discussions focused on reviewing the judicial pay scale.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Finance Minister emphasized the necessity of further discussions before a final decision is made. He asserted that the government would disclose the full decision once all aspects of the National Pay Commission's recommendations are thoroughly examined. "We had a long discussion today, and more discussion is needed," Khosru stated. "It will happen in time, certainly within this year."
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Adviser to the Prime Minister on the Ministries of Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, and Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder. Khosru indicated that while the day's discussions addressed one aspect of the pay scale, other issues still require examination before reaching a conclusive decision.
A day prior, ABM Abdus Sattar, the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, mentioned that a new pay scale for public servants could be announced "at any moment." The current development follows the formation of a new Pay Commission in 2025, marking 12 years since the establishment of the Eighth Pay Commission in 2013.
