Dhaka: Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today announced that the government is prepared to offer necessary assistance concerning travel documents if BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman decides to return to Bangladesh. 'The matter (of returning) depends on his (Tarique's) own decision, but we will address the issues related to his travel documents or passport when it is required,' he stated during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser clarified that he has no information regarding whether the BNP leader has applied for a passport at the Bangladesh High Commission in London. Touhid emphasized that the decision to return lies with Tarique Rahman himself.
Addressing questions about the extradition of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India, Touhid mentioned that there has been no progress on Dhaka's request to New Delhi and no second request letter has been dispatched.
Regarding international election observers, Touhid informed that a pre-election exploratory mission from the European Union has already visited Bangladesh. 'So far, I have no update in this regard,' he remarked, noting that the Election Commission is handling this issue.
