Gazipur: Agriculture Secretary Dr Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian today announced that the government plans to distribute Tk 39,000 crore in agricultural and rural loans for the fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Mian revealed this initiative while addressing a seminar titled 'Innovative Power of Youth, Driving Force of Agricultural Transformation' at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Gazipur Agricultural University. The seminar was organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) as part of the 'Youth Festival 2025' program initiated by the government.
Dr Mian emphasized the government's commitment to identifying and supporting individuals who require assistance to become entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector. This initiative marks the first time the government has set a fixed price for potatoes at the cold storage gate to aid farmers. Additionally, the government has decided to acquire 50,000 metric tons of potatoes for the first time, he added.
The seminar, presided over by BARC Executive Chairman Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim, highlighted the potential of youth as a driving force in agricultural transformation.
