Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, has announced the government’s commitment to distributing khas land under the Ministry of Land to genuine landless people. He assured that families who have been residing in a specific area for over four decades will be granted khas land through the Deputy Commissioner.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister addressed journalists at his residence in the Padma Residential Area, commenting on the recent dispute over property occupation and eviction in the Pabnapara neighbourhood of the Nawdapara area. The Land Minister emphasized the importance of providing notice before any eviction, stating that demolishing homes without warning is extremely unjust.
He attributed the situation to the shortcomings of former officials and reiterated his moral obligation to support helpless and destitute individuals, aligning with his election commitments. The minister criticized local land grabbers from the pre
vious government’s tenure, accusing them of attempting to seize public property.
The minister called for stronger legal measures against false cases and harassment by land grabbers, suggesting the formation of a local lawyer panel and announced his personal financial support. Regarding the distribution of khas land, he mentioned the possibility of allotting one to two kathas of land per family if needed.
Earlier, landless individuals had staged a sit-in and hunger strike in front of the minister’s residence, demanding action. The minister showed solidarity with their demands and ended their hunger strike by offering them water.
