Dhaka: The government aims to leverage the benefits of the trade agreement signed with the United States to advance the country’s economy, as stated by Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Prime Minister’s Adviser on the Ministries of Finance and Planning. Dr. Titumir made this announcement while speaking to reporters following a meeting with Brendan Lynch, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Titumir emphasized the government’s intention to proceed with full respect for the agreement instead of its cancellation. He highlighted that initiatives would be undertaken to expand bilateral trade within the established framework. However, he assured that if any provision is contrary to national interests, there would be room for discussions to address it.
Dr. Titumir also mentioned that the country plans to utilize U.S. technology and innovation to aid in the recovery of the fragile economy. There will be a particular focus on increasing exports in the pharmaceutical sector and boosting productivity. On the topic of international relations, he stated that Bangladesh does not prefer exclusive dependence on any single country but seeks to build inclusive relations with all.
Discussions are ongoing to strengthen trade relations with the United States and other friendly countries, furthering the government’s objective to enhance economic progress.
