Dhaka: The government has officially withdrawn the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) from 40 police officials who are currently fugitives and under temporary suspension. The Home Ministry issued a gazette notification to this effect, indicating a significant move against the absconding officers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the notification has also ordered the cessation of financial transactions related to the medals awarded to these police officials. Furthermore, the officers have been instructed to return all financial benefits they received in association with the medals. This decision affects a range of officials across various ranks and divisions.
The list of affected police officers includes notable names such as Syed Nurul Islam, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and officer of special duty (OSD) at the public security division. Other high-ranking officials include Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and Noor-e-Alam Mina, DIG, OSD. The list extends to officers like Biplab Kumar Sarkar, Additional DIG, and several others attached to various Range DIG offices across the country.
This unprecedented action reflects the government’s stance on accountability and integrity within the police force. The decision to revoke these prestigious awards underscores a wider effort to address misconduct and uphold transparency within law enforcement agencies.
