Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain announced that the government successfully repatriated an unspent Hajj fund amounting to Tk.37.94 crore from Saudi Arabia. This recovery was in favor of 990 Bangladeshi Hajj agencies that had been trying to retrieve their unused funds for several years.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fund was repatriated through government initiatives following requests from the affected Hajj agencies. These agencies had their unspent money deposited in the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's Masar Nusuk platform from 2017 to 2024.
Dr. Hossain explained that the recovered amount has been transferred to the Hajj-related account of the Bangladesh Hajj Office in the Saudi Franchise Bank. He attributed the successful completion of all official processes to the sincere efforts and positive initiatives undertaken by the religious ministry.
He further noted that the funds had been deposited over the years by the Bangladeshi agencies for Hajj-related purposes but had remained unused. The recovery was specifically made from the Masar Nusuk platform under the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, where the agencies had deposited money via IBAN accounts.
