Dhaka: The Press Information Department (PID) of the government today dismissed claims circulating on social media that the 1971 Martyred Intellectual Memorial located in Mirpur is being demolished. The department described these reports as being spread with an evil motive.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the PID issued a statement asserting that the Public Works Department is currently undertaking renovation work at the site. The statement emphasized that these operations are not part of any demolition activity.
The PID clarified that the memorial site falls under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka North City Corporation and is situated near the Darussalam police station. Both these offices have also rejected the claims found on social media platforms.
The statement reaffirmed that the memorial, which stands as a symbol of remembrance, is not being demolished, countering the rumors that have been circulating.
