Dhaka: The government today published the names of those who died and were injured in the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter plane crash at the Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara area. Names of 22 deceased and 57 injured, who are currently receiving treatment at various city hospitals, were released by the press wing of the Chief Adviser this afternoon. Two of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) this afternoon, while four others were discharged from hospitals after treatment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided updated information till 5:30 pm today, confirming that the death toll from the aircraft crash stands at 31, with 51 people still receiving treatment in different hospitals in the capital. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and NIBPS have provided names of seven more deceased, bringing the total number of identified fatalities to 29 out of 31, while two bodies remain at the hospital pending DNA testing to confirm their identities.
The Forensic DNA Lab of the CID has confirmed the identities of five more individuals who perished in the crash. "The CID collected 11 DNA samples and confirmed identities of five girl children," stated a CID press release today. The identified children are Okia Ferdous, Lamia Akhter Samia, Afsan Akter Priya, Raisa Moni, and Marium alias Afia, with their parents' names also provided.
The other 22 identified victims of the crash include individuals ranging from young children to adults, such as Tanvir, Afnan Faiyaz, Mahrin, and Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam, among others. In addition, two children, Mahtab and Mahia, died this afternoon at the NIBPS.
Of the 31 deceased, 13 died at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Unit, 15 at CMH, and one each at United Hospital Limited and Shaheed Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital. A total of 22 bodies have been handed over to their families after identification, as confirmed by a press release on Wednesday.
Among the injured, several are receiving treatment at the NIBPS, with their conditions classified as critical, requiring complete bed rest, or intermediate. The injured are being treated in consultation with a medical team from Singapore General Hospital, which arrived in the capital on Wednesday.
The crash occurred on Monday afternoon when a BAF fighter jet, due to a mechanical fault, crashed into the Milestone School and College at Uttara, resulting in the death of at least 31 people and injuring many others.
