Khagrachari: Adviser to Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Supradip Chakma has emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing sustainable livelihood development programs aimed at reducing unemployment in the CHT region. He highlighted the relentless efforts being made to ensure economic self-reliance and food safety for the hill people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these remarks during an agriculture instruments distribution program held at Jadurampara Government Primary School ground under Khagrachhari sadar upazila. The event was organized by the local administration under ‘The Climate Resilience Livelihood Development and Water Management Project’.
The program was graced by Khagrachari Zila Parishad Chairman Shefalika Tripura, Project Director of the Climate Resilience Livelihood Development and Water Management Project Pabon Kumar Chakma, and Executive Director of the local Zila Parishad Md Abdullah Al Mahfuj as special guests. Kamalchari Cluster Development Committee Chairman Patrui Marma chaired the event.
During the distribution, the adviser handed out 16 power tillers, seven 12HP power pumps, and several 4HP pumps to farmers from seven localities in Kamalchari Union of the Sadar upazila. These instruments were provided through a project jointly financed by the government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Describing the agriculture instruments distribution as an epoch-making event, the adviser stated that these are not mere donations but rather recognition of the farmers’ contribution to the country and their role in the national development process.
He reiterated the present government’s commitment to advancing the livelihoods of both the plain land and hill people. He stressed that future governments must continue to support the hill people, asserting that no government can sustain power by neglecting them.
