Dhaka: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced that the government is prioritizing the strengthening of the rural economy and improving the living standards of rural communities through new development projects and the expansion of rural infrastructure.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister, responding to a supplementary question from ruling party MP Md Akhtaruzzaman Mia (Dinajpur-4) in Parliament, revealed that more than 500 projects initiated by previous governments have not reached even 10 percent implementation. Additionally, around 1,300 projects are currently under review due to issues related to wastage and corruption.

The Finance and Planning Minister highlighted that the information presented was based on official records and mentioned that these projects were undertaken by previous administrations, thus offering limited scope for further comment. However, he expressed optimism that the current government’s development plans are focused on enhancing rural economic activities and the quality of life in rural areas.

Minister Khosru emphasized that developing rural infrastructure is crucial for strengthening the rural economy and improving living standards. He stated that the government is committed to initiating practical and community-focused projects that directly benefit rural populations, aiming for sustainable economic growth across the country.

Furthermore, the minister encouraged members of parliament to propose development projects to the respective ministries. If such projects are found feasible and beneficial for improving local livelihoods and living standards, they will be considered for future implementation. He also expressed hope that the government would increasingly deliver positive news through effective project implementation and rural development initiatives.
