Rangpur: The government has formulated a comprehensive action plan to revamp the country’s medical services, aiming to provide healthcare facilities for every citizen. This initiative comes under the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, as announced by Dr Md Abdus Salam, Member of Parliament from Thakurgaon-2 constituency. Dr Salam shared these details while speaking as the chief guest at a reception, doa, and Iftar mahfil held at the Rangpur Medical College premises.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the Rangpur unit of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and saw participation from doctors, intern doctors, nurses, and individuals from various professions. Dr Md Abdus Salam emphasized that the implementation of the action plan is already underway. The government’s commitment is to ensure that every citizen has easy access to better healthcare facilities.
Dr Salam also highlighted the responsibilities of doctors, stating, “We, as doctors, have a lot of responsibility on our shoulders. We must treat our profession as humanitarian service.” He further appealed to the Prime Minister to consider converting Rangpur Medical College into a university to enhance health services and education in the northern region of the country.
The function was presided over by Prof Dr Jabed Akhtar, Convener of the Iftar Organizing Committee and Rangpur DAB leader. Notable attendees included Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donar, Member of the Advisory Council of BNP Chairperson and DAB Chief Adviser, DAB President Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid, Secretary General Dr Md Zahirul Islam Shakil, and other prominent figures from the medical and political community.
