Dhaka: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit today announced the government's plan for major state investment in technology-driven innovation and research aimed at overhauling the country's healthcare system. He made these remarks during a plenary discussion titled "Health Innovation for All: Expanding Access to Affordable and Inclusive Care" at the Plenary Hall of Novo Theatre in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology as part of the Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026. Dr Zubaida Rahman, Prime Minister's wife and Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, attended as the chief guest. The discussion was moderated by Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Health Dr SM Ziauddin Haider, while Prof AK Azad Khan presented the keynote paper.
Dr MA Muhit emphasized that the healthcare sector cannot continue with a "business-as-usual" approach. He highlighted the transformation of the health sector into a technology-friendly and modern system to ensure quality, affordable, and equitable healthcare for all citizens, irrespective of their economic status.
The state minister elaborated on several initiatives, including the establishment of a national digital health system, the introduction of health cards, and the creation of a well-defined referral network. These measures aim to protect the health of the country's 20 crore citizens. Muhit stated that once the central platform is established, it will preserve health-related information for all citizens, ensuring transparency and accountability within the healthcare system.
