Dhaka: The government has meticulously planned a series of national-level programmes to observe Martyred Intellectuals’ Day 2025 on December 14, ensuring the occasion is marked with due respect. President Mohammed Shahabuddin will initiate the day’s events by placing a wreath at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial at 7:05 am, followed closely by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at 7:06 am.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the programme will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television and other private TV channels. Under the guidance of the liberation war affairs adviser, family members of the martyred intellectuals, along with wounded and current freedom fighters, are scheduled to place wreaths at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at 7:22 am and subsequently at the Rayer Bazar Killing Ground Memorial at 8:30 am.
In addition, a wide array of political and social organizations, as well as individuals from diverse backgrounds, will participate in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial at 8:30 am. The President and the Chief Adviser will also release commemorative messages to honor the day’s significance.
Discussions underscoring the importance of the day are arranged at district and upazila levels, with Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and other private TV channels airing special programmes. Special prayers will be conducted across various religious venues, including mosques, temples, churches, and pagodas, in observance of the day.
To uphold the solemnity of Martyred Intellectuals’ Day, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has urged the public to refrain from using microphones or loudspeakers in the vicinity of the Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial.
