Dhaka: The government is closely monitoring the rescheduling of suspended Middle East-bound flights to ensure passengers have adequate time and face minimal inconvenience, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat announced today. Addressing journalists at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the State Minister revealed that approximately 54 international flights were suspended due to the evolving Iran-Israel situation, affecting several routes, including some operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines. However, he assured that flight operations have resumed, considering the latest developments.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the State Minister stated, “Flights suspended yesterday have already been rescheduled. We are working in coordination with the Civil Aviation Chairman, the Secretary of the concerned ministry, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ Welfare.” He expressed optimism that by Monday, all passengers from the suspended flights would be transported to their respective destinations.
The State Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is personally monitoring the situation continuously, with a particular focus on the wellbeing of passengers unable to depart for overseas destinations. “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is directly overseeing the matter and providing regular directives, including arrangements for iftar and other necessary facilities. We have successfully ensured all required support for the passengers,” he added.
Millat advised passengers to confirm updated flight schedules with their respective airlines or travel agencies before heading to the airport, as the situation remains fluid. He noted that flights are being rescheduled to give passengers, including those from remote areas, enough time to reach the airport.
“We hope the conflict will not escalate further. If the situation stabilises, operations will continue smoothly. However, if it worsens, we will convene an inter-ministerial meeting and take necessary measures accordingly,” he concluded.
