Dhaka: The interim government is focused on strengthening the national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and the state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV), according to Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam addressed the importance of a state broadcaster and a state news agency during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy. He highlighted the critical role these institutions play in a country's media landscape and compared Bangladesh's efforts with similar initiatives in countries like Turkey, Russia, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and China.
Alam emphasized that these countries have successfully expanded their state broadcasters to include diverse programming such as news channels, English TV channels, and vernacular language channels. He pointed out that private media outlets might not cover news from remote areas due to financial constraints, which underscores the necessity of a state-run broadcaster.
He further clarified that empowering BTV and BSS would ensure comprehensive news coverage across Bangladesh, enabling citizens to access important information. The government's initiative is aimed at making these organizations more robust to fulfill their critical role in the country's information dissemination.
Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder also participated in the press briefing, supporting the initiative to enhance the capabilities of BTV and BSS.
