Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan has informed Parliament that the government is making dedicated efforts to rectify the discrepancies present in the list of freedom fighters (FFs) and their allowance distributions, which were introduced during the tenure of the ‘fascist’ government. “We’re working on it. I would like to assure the lawmaker that we’ll present it (these anomalies and authentic list) before the nation through completing our work soon,” stated Azam in response to a question from treasury bench lawmaker Zainul Abdin Farroque (Noakhali-2) during the parliamentary session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized that his ministry has been receiving numerous complaints regarding the anomalies, and they are actively addressing the issue. Azam highlighted that many genuine freedom fighters were deprived of their rightful allowances due to the actions of the previous regime. He further pointed out that these freedom fighters had their certificates revoked, faced harassment, and were replaced by fraudulent claimants who were provided with allowances and other unauthorized benefits.
The session, which commenced at 3:30 pm, was presided over by Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram. The minister reassured that efforts are being made to correct these injustices and ensure that only legitimate freedom fighters receive the recognition and support they deserve.
