Govt Initiatives Aim to Enhance Child Learning and Nutrition Across Bangladesh

Habiganj:The government is undertaking coordinated initiatives to ensure quality learning for every child, focusing on learning outcomes, nutrition, teacher development, effective monitoring, and accountability, as stated by State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, improving primary education quality involves more than just building infrastructure or ensuring attendance. It requires understanding what children learn, the strength of their foundational learning, and whether they receive adequate nutrition.

Hajjaj made these remarks as the chief guest at an orientation program for head teachers under the 'Feeding Programme in Government Primary Schools' project and a meeting on improving primary education quality at Bahubal Upazila Parishad in Habiganj. He emphasized identifying gaps and working collaboratively to address them, highlighting concerns over student dropouts and the importance of the school feeding program.

The program not only aims to meet students' nutritional needs but also to retain them in schools and keep them engaged in learning activities. With support from the World Food Programme (WFP), the initiative ensures food quality based on internationally recognized nutritional standards. Currently, around 3.1 million students benefit from the program, with plans to expand coverage to about 11 million by 2027.

The event was chaired by Habiganj Deputy Commissioner Dr. G.M. Sharfaraz and attended by local lawmaker Dr. Reza Kibria, WFP Bangladesh Head of Programme Jesse Wood, a director of the Directorate of Primary Education, and Bahubal Upazila Nirbahi Officer. Head teachers and officials concerned were also present.
