Dhaka: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam announced today that the government has initiated the necessary legal procedures to extradite the ousted Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, from India. Sheikh Hasina, who sought refuge in India following her ouster during the July Mass Uprising in 2024, faces a death sentence for crimes against humanity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Aminul Islam informed the media that the government has formally requested the Indian government to extradite Sheikh Hasina. "Our government has already applied to the Indian government to bring her back. The request for her extradition is a legal process, and the government has taken the necessary steps to bring her back through that process," he stated.
Sheikh Hasina was ousted from her position and subsequently took refuge in India after the July 2024 Mass Uprising. The International Crimes Tribunal later sentenced her to death for her involvement in crimes against humanity during this period. The government is now working through diplomatic and legal channels to secure her return to Bangladesh to face justice.
