Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the need for a transparent and technology-driven revenue system to ensure that citizens can trust their hard-earned money is being utilized for welfare and developmental purposes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus highlighted the interim government’s commitment to creating a well-structured and equitable state financial framework. This effort aims to establish a technology-driven, hassle-free Value Added Tax (VAT) system, as stated in his message marking the Value Added Tax (VAT) Day and VAT Week 2025.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is observing VAT Day today and VAT Week from December 10-15, focusing on the importance of timely registration under the theme, “Register on Time, Pay VAT Accurately.”
Professor Yunus expressed aspirations for a future where economic transactions are transparent, the business environment is friendly, and state services are universally accessible and of high quality. He hoped that a transparent and simplified revenue system would emerge, reflecting the spirit of the July mass uprising, allowing citizens to trust that their contributions are genuinely used for public welfare and development.
“Establishing the principle that people’s money is used for people’s welfare is at the heart of our collective efforts,” the Chief Adviser stated. He urged everyone to participate actively in building a just revenue system during the National VAT Day celebrations.
Professor Yunus extended congratulations to businessmen, consumers, revenue officials, and all involved in VAT collection, acknowledging VAT as a significant source of domestic revenue. He emphasized the need for a transparent, effective, and accountable VAT system to ensure the country’s stable and sustainable economic advancement.
He also reflected on the July movement’s core inspiration to establish dignity and accountability in state governance, noting that the VAT Day reinforces these values.
