Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today announced that the interim government is actively working to enhance the work environment and housing facilities for police personnel. This announcement was made during a press briefing after he unveiled the foundation stones for five new police station buildings for the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the old Ramna Police Station Complex.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser highlighted the challenges faced by police stations operating out of rented houses, citing poor working conditions and cramped spaces as significant issues. He emphasized the government's commitment to relocating these stations to purpose-built facilities, with the current initiative being a major step towards this goal. The new buildings will serve the Adabor, Kadamtali, Bhasantek, Ramna, and Rampura areas.
The Home Adviser explained that out of the 50 police stations under DMP's jurisdiction, 25 currently operate from their own buildings, while the remaining 25 are in rented accommodations. The government's plan aims to address this imbalance by ensuring all police stations have adequate facilities.
Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also mentioned plans to lay foundation stones for three additional police stations-Shahbag, Mugda, and Bhatara-soon, as part of the ongoing efforts to improve police infrastructure. The initiative underscores the government's dedication to supporting the police force by providing better working environments and accommodation.
