Dhaka: The government has announced an increase in the prices of salt-applied rawhides from sacrificial animals, raising the cowhide rates by Tk 2 per square foot compared to the previous year. The announcement was made by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir during a press briefing at the ministry in Dhaka on Wednesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the new rates for salt-applied cowhide in Dhaka have been set at Tk 62-Tk 67 per square foot, an increase from last year’s Tk 60-Tk 65. Outside Dhaka, prices have been adjusted to Tk 57-Tk 62 per square foot, up from Tk 55-Tk 60. Additionally, goat hides will sell for Tk 25-Tk 30 per square foot nationwide, while she-goat hides have been fixed at Tk 22-Tk 25 per square foot.
The Commerce Minister also stated that the government will provide salt worth Tk 17.6 crore free of charge to assist in preserving the rawhides. This initiative will involve traders, mosques, and madrasas from various areas to ensure the preservation process is effective.
Furthermore, efforts are being made to ensure that no rawhide goes to waste during Eid-ul-Azha. To support this, district and upazila administrations will provide training to individuals from mosques and madrasas on the proper techniques for preserving hides post-sacrifice.
