Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) announced today that the government has implemented extensive security measures nationwide to ensure that citizens can celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr in a festive and safe environment. “The government is working to ensure that the people can celebrate Eid in a smooth and festive atmosphere. We have taken necessary steps to ensure that flawless security, peace and order are maintained during Eid,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these comments during a press briefing following the 8th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting, chaired by the Home Adviser, focused on the overall law and order situation in preparation for Independence and National Day and Eid-ul-Fitr.

Jahangir emphasized the importance of maintaining normal law and order, highlighting plans to tackle criminal activities and anti-national movements. Authorities have been instructed to enhance patrols and intelligence surveillance nationwide, set up check posts at Dhaka’s entry and exit points, and increase operations in residential hotels and slums.

The government will deploy intelligence agency members alongside uniformed police, establish specific road check posts, provide money escorts, and implement measures to prevent and detect fake currency circulation. Jahangir called for the payment of salaries and bonuses to garment and industrial workers before the Eid holidays and warned of legal action against those inciting instability.

Instructions have been issued to maintain law and order throughout Eid, with control rooms set up by police and other agencies to ensure road discipline. These control rooms will coordinate with the central Joint Operation Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

To manage traffic and congestion, authorities have been directed to expedite toll collection at key bridges and flyovers. Restrictions on the movement of construction materials and long vehicles, except for essential goods or passenger transport, will be enforced for six days around Eid. Measures are also in place to prevent overloading and fare hikes in public transport, urging public awareness and cooperation.
