Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman on Tuesday assured that the government has no intention of obstructing or disrupting cultural activities. He acknowledged that concerts and other cultural programmes might occasionally be cancelled due to security concerns.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Andaleeve Rahman stated, “The cancellation of a concert does not necessarily mean that the government did not cooperate. There may have been security concerns there among other issues. We can find out about the matter by talking to the relevant ministry,” in response to inquiries from journalists at the Secretariat regarding local religious leaders obstructing cultural programmes in Brahmanbaria and Kishoreganj.
The Minister emphasized that many concerts, including major events, are currently being held in Bangladesh. If there are security concerns at a specific venue, the issue should be assessed individually. He reiterated that the government does not have a mindset to obstruct or disrupt cultural activities, and there is no cause for concern.
He highlighted that for decades, certain groups have consistently opposed various cultural programmes in Bangladesh. Despite these incidents, he assured that there is no reason to worry. He emphasized Bangladesh’s cultural coexistence and the need for unity, stating that while overreactions can occur, the law will address these issues appropriately.
The Minister expressed confidence in moving forward with public support, saying, “I believe that if you stay with us and the people of the country stay with us, we will be able to move forward properly.”
Additionally, Prime Minister’s Adviser for Information and Broadcasting Dr Zahed Ur Rahman noted the significant progress in cultural activities under the current government compared to the situation following August 5. He acknowledged that certain influential groups have posed challenges over the past one and a half to two years, but efforts are being made to accelerate progress.
Dr Zahed Ur Rahman highlighted the government’s focus on expanding cultural activities nationwide. He mentioned his meetings with the Prime Minister, emphasizing her keen interest in promoting cultural practices across the country.
