Dhaka: The government has officially handed over the title deed of a house in Gulshan to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The formal handover took place when Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Adilur Rahman Khan, presented the title deed to Khaleda Zia at around 9:00 pm on Wednesday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was confirmed by ABM Abdus Sattar, Private Secretary to Begum Khaleda Zia. He stated that the adviser arrived with some papers and handed them to the former prime minister, although he was not aware of the specific nature of the documents.
The Gulshan house was originally allotted to Khaleda Zia following the assassination of her husband, Ziaur Rahman, who was the President of Bangladesh at the time of his death on May 31, 1981. The property, situated on one and a half bighas of land, is located near 'Firoza,' the residence where Khaleda Zia currently resides in Gulshan. Additionally, she was previously allotted another house within the Dhaka Cantonment; however, the allocation was later canceled by the previous Awami League government.
Reliable sources have indicated that although the Gulshan house was under Khaleda Zia's control, it was not registered in her name until the interim government assumed office. Public Works Ministry sources confirmed that the registration process for the house in Khaleda Zia's name has been completed, though the formal handover of the registration paper was delayed due to Khaleda Zia's health conditions.
