Dhaka: Shipping and Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (retd.) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain announced today that the government has approved the proposal for a six-lane highway project from Bhanga to Patuakhali. The announcement was made during a view-exchange meeting with reporters at the Circuit House in the city, where Labour and Employment Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman was also present.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sakhawat further revealed that a significant demand for constructing a bridge over the Mirganj River has also been approved. The completion of this bridge is expected to enhance communication with Barishal and its three upazilas.
Sakhawat emphasized the importance of preserving the country’s waterways, stating, “We are trying to bring back our steamer services on the waterways. There are plans to launch at least two steamers in the next five to six months. This will be good news for those who used to travel by steamer.”
