Gazipur: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit today inaugurated the drilling of an appraisal-cum-development well at the Kamta Gas field in Gazipur. It is anticipated that the completion of the Kamta-2 well could contribute approximately 10 million cubic feet daily (mmcfd) of gas to the national grid, as stated by Amit during the inauguration ceremony.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the drilling activities are being executed by the Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) under Petrobangla. These activities are projected to be finalized within six months. The government has initiated four appraisal-cum-development well drilling projects at the Titas and Kamta fields with the aim of boosting domestic gas production, decreasing reliance on imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), and enhancing energy security.

The project details reveal that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the initiative on February 2, with an estimated cost of Tk.1,255 crore. Of this, the government will provide Tk. 872.20 crore, while BGFCL will contribute Tk. 382.80 crore. The project encompasses drilling three wells at the Titas field and one at the Kamta field, hiring foreign consultants, constructing a gas gathering pipeline at Titas, and installing a process plant at Kamta, along with other ancillary works.

The inauguration event was attended by Petrobangla Chairman Md Abdul Mannan, BGFCL Chairman Mohammad Mohsin, BGFCL Managing Director Engineer Md Abdul Jalil Pramanik, and other relevant stakeholders.
