Govt Ensures Security for Tarique Rahman’s Return: Shafiqul

Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced today that the government has put in place necessary security measures for the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who is expected to arrive in Bangladesh tomorrow. “We welcome his return to Bangladesh. We keep communication with his party about the required security measures for him,” Shafiqul Alam stated during a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press secretary emphasized that the government is coordinating with the BNP to ensure security arrangements are in line with the party’s requirements. “From our side, we have the highest effort to ensure foolproof security,” he added.



Addressing the ongoing investigation into the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, Shafiqul Alam affirmed that the government is prioritizing this case. “We are getting some vital clues. We have the highest efforts to investigate the matter,” he said, mentioning that several arrests have already been made.



In relation to the murder of Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker in Mymensingh, the press secretary reported that the government has condemned the act and 12 individuals have been arrested based on video analysis. “The law adviser today informed the Council of Adviser that the trial of Dipu murder will be held under the Speedy Trial Act,” he noted.



Shafiqul Alam also addressed the government’s commitment to protecting minority communities and provided updates on the incidents of arson and vandalism at the Prothom Alo and The Daily Star offices. He reported that 31 arrests have been made following video analysis, with several legal cases filed. “All perpetrators will be brought under law,” he assured.



Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmmad was also present at the briefing.
