Dhaka: The government today dismissed the 'baseless rumours' being circulated on social media claiming that investors would incur losses due to the ongoing process of merging five Islamic banks. A vested quarter was deliberately spreading such misinformation, but no government decision has been taken that could harm investors' interests, said an official statement issued here by the Ministry of Finance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the matter of protecting investors' interests is being carefully examined in the merger process. The ministry's statement reassured stakeholders, highlighting that safeguarding investors' interests is a priority in the merger discussions.

The ministry also urged all concerned to remain alert against such 'misleading and fabricated' information being spread online. The government emphasized the importance of relying on official channels for accurate information regarding the merger process.
