Kuakata: Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarker today announced that the government is fully prepared and committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible national election, scheduled for February 2026. His remarks were made during a daylong workshop titled 'Identifying the Challenges and Ways to Overcome Them in Performing Duties of Polling Officials in the Electoral Process', held at the CODEC Training Centre in Kuakata, Patuakhali district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop was organized by the Patuakhali District Senior Election Office and presided over by the Regional Election Officer of Barishal Region, Md Faridul Islam. The event saw participation from around 60 officials from election offices of eight upazilas of Patuakhali district, along with representatives from various government departments.
Anwarul Islam, addressing the attendees as the chief guest, highlighted recent amendments to the existing election law (RPO), empowering returning officers to postpone polling in their respective constituencies if necessary. He urged all election officials to perform their duties without fear, emphasizing the importance of their role in ensuring credible elections.
The workshop was also attended by Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Apu Saroar, and Deputy Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Mohammad Mustafa Hassan as special guests.
