Govt Approves Procurement of LNG and Diesel Amid Energy Demand Surge

Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has given the green light for the acquisition of two cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and one lakh metric tons of Diesel in response to the escalating energy demand within the nation, particularly during a period of global geopolitical instability. This decision was made during the committee’s 14th meeting of the year, which was conducted virtually under the leadership of Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, as stated by officials from the Cabinet Division.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting sanctioned a proposal presented by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division for the procurement of two cargoes of LNG from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd. Alongside this, approval was also granted for importing one lakh metric tons of 50 PPM Sulphur Diesel from Kazakh Gas Processing Plant LLP. This diesel procurement will be conducted through the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) under international purchase, with an estimated cost of approximately Taka 689.29 crore.
