Govt Appoints New Leadership to Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission

Dhaka: The government today appointed a new chairman and three commissioners to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for a four-year term.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, separate notifications issued by the Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance announced the appointment of Masud Khan as the new chairman of the capital market regulator. Nahid Mahtab, Tanvir Habib Rahman, and Md. Nafiz Al Tarik have been appointed as commissioners of the BSEC.

The appointments were made under Section 5(2) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993. The newly appointed chairman and commissioners will serve for four years from their respective joining dates.

The notifications also require the appointees to sever all professional ties and positions with other institutions and organizations before assuming their new roles. Signed by Deputy Secretary Farhana Jahan, the notifications stated that these appointments are made in the public interest and will be effective immediately.

These appointments are part of the government's efforts to strengthen the regulatory framework of the country's capital market and enhance investor confidence through effective oversight and governance.
