Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has announced that the government plans to construct a bridge over the Kocha river at the Charkhali-Togra ferry ghat point in Pirojpur. This statement was made in response to a query from ruling party lawmaker M Ruhul Amin Dulal of Pirojpur-3 during a session at Jatiya Sangsad, presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the bridge division has already submitted the Preliminary Development Project Proposal (PDPP) to the planning commission. Additionally, a proposal has been placed with the Economic Relation Division (ERD) to secure necessary funding for the construction of the 2.2-kilometer-long bridge in Pirojpur.
Alam confirmed that the hydro-morphology test for the bridge has been completed, expressing hope that construction will commence soon. The bridge is considered vital as it will be part of the regional highway, significantly reducing the travel distance by at least 50 kilometers between Dhaka and the southern part of the country.
