Dhaka: Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam today announced that the government is actively working to transition Bangladesh from a labour-driven economy to one fueled by knowledge and innovation. He emphasized the development of high-tech sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced chip design, and bioelectronics as pivotal to achieving this transformation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faqir Mahbub, who also serves as the Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister, made these remarks while addressing a discussion titled "Bangladesh Deep-Tech Future." The event was held on the second day of the National Semiconductor Symposium and BEAR Summit 2026 at the Novo Theatre in Tejgaon. He highlighted the importance of promoting the "Made in Bangladesh" brand in the innovation and export of technology products and services.
The minister reassured continued governmental support for the semiconductor and deep-tech sectors, stressing the potential of the country's youth to lead these industries. He affirmed the government's commitment to support innovation, research, and policy development to bolster these efforts.
Further, Faqir Mahbub noted the significance of the BEAR Summit, which has attracted participation from leading global technology companies, universities, industry leaders, expatriate Bangladeshis, and experts. He described the event as the beginning of a movement rather than just a conference.
In his address to business leaders at the programme, the minister underscored the government's business-friendly stance. He assured that the government is committed to creating business opportunities and accelerating technological advancement in the country.
The event also featured a keynote presentation by Professor Dimitrios Peroulis, Senior Vice President of Purdue University, at the Global Academic Plenary Session. Other notable attendees included Science and Technology Secretary Md Anwar Hossain, Purdue University Professor and Chief Architect of Silicon River Bangladesh Professor Mohammad Mostafa Hossain, and Director General of the Novo Theatre Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan.
