Kuakata: Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain has reaffirmed the government's commitment to modernizing and improving efficiency in port management through innovative and practical approaches. "If the master plan of Payra Port is implemented, it will become one of the economic drivers of the region," he stated during a seminar on the master plan of Payra Port held in Kuakata.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Payra Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal delivered the welcome speech at the seminar. He highlighted ongoing efforts to launch the first terminal of the port by July 2026 and called for cooperation from the government as well as support from all concerned parties.
The seminar saw participation from senior officials of various departments, military and maritime organizations, business leaders, port user stakeholders, and representatives from the master plan formulation institution. Academics from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Royal Dutch University of Technology, Netherlands, were also present.
BUET Professor Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed, alongside Tommy Loder of Royal Haskoning DCH, presented different aspects of the master plan. Commodore Mohammad Abdul Kader, Member (Engineering and Development) of the Payra Port Authority, shared insights into the future vision and development strategy for the port.
