Rangpur: Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain today expressed the interim government’s intention to expand all types of sports nationwide.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Mahmud emphasized the interest of people at the marginal levels in sports, suggesting that this enthusiasm could be harnessed as a strength to spread various sports. He highlighted the creation of opportunities for new players through the organization of upazila-based tournaments.
Asif Mahmud, who also serves as the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser, made these remarks while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of the ‘July 36 Gold Cup Football Tournament-2025’ at Rangpur Stadium. The tournament, organized jointly by the district administration and the district sports organization, commenced on July 28 under the theme “Change the country, change the world.”
Eight football teams, representing each of the eight upazilas of the district, participated in the tournament. The chief guest underscored the potential for local culture and sports to flourish through such tournaments, leading to the emergence of talented players capable of representing the national team.
He urged all stakeholders to organize similar competitions to motivate local players. Special guests at the event included Md Mokbul Hossain, father of Abu Sayeed, who was martyred in the July Uprising, Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Aminul Islam, and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal.
