Dhaka: State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin emphasized the government's commitment to tackling Bangladesh's power and energy issues, aiming to reduce the nation's reliance on external sources. Speaking at the district law-and-order committee meeting in Natore's deputy commissioner's conference room, she addressed the ongoing challenges faced by citizens regarding oil, gas, and electricity supply.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Sharmin highlighted the government's acknowledgment of these challenges, with both the Prime Minister and other government officials expressing their regret to the public. She stressed the importance of evaluating the government's progress over the initial seven months of its tenure and noted that the current administration has responded to various demands, including those outlined in the BNP's 31-point programme.
Discussing the forthcoming local government elections, the minister assured that these would be conducted with greater transparency, devoid of party symbols. She criticized the current state of the local government system and underscored the need for appointing qualified individuals to restore and enhance its functionality.
Deputy Commissioner Mst Shumoni Aktar presided over the meeting, which saw participation from officials across different government sectors in the district.
