Dhaka: State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam announced that the government is actively initiating efforts to enhance the utilization of jute products in workplaces and various sectors across the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the State Minister emphasized the government’s focus on integrating jute bags in ministries related to disaster management, agriculture, food, and commerce. These comments were made during a media briefing after his visit to the Jute and Multipurpose Jute Products Fair at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.
The minister highlighted the fair’s role in displaying the diverse range of jute-based products manufactured nationwide, underscoring the sector’s potential. He further mentioned that the government plans to support and motivate entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas, to create employment opportunities and foster economic growth.
“The rural people of the country have preserved the tradition of the ‘golden fibre.’ We will take steps to a
ddress the challenges so that this heritage can move forward,” he stated, expressing commitment to preserving and advancing the jute sector’s heritage.
Textiles and Jute Ministry Secretary Bilkis Jahan Rimi and Managing Director of the Jute Diversification and Promotion Centre (JDPC) Md. Zahid Hossain, among others, attended the event.
Earlier, the state minister visited various stalls at the fair, commended the products, and assured entrepreneurs of governmental support in solving their issues.
The Multi-purpose Jute Products Fair 2026, organized by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, marks National Jute Day 2026. The fair features 72 stalls, mainly showcasing products from entrepreneurs trained under the JDPC, and will continue until March 14.
