Dhaka:The government is set to boost international recognition, employment opportunities, and higher education prospects for Bangladeshi architects, as stated by Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister's Adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin emphasized the government's commitment to providing the necessary policy and infrastructural support to assist young architects in showcasing their talent on a global stage. This initiative aims to enhance the country's image and provide architects with wider opportunities abroad.
Mahdi Amin made these remarks during the inaugural ceremony of the 'Bangladesh Arch Summit 2026' at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). He highlighted the transformative policies and development plans under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's leadership, which are expected to bring significant changes to the architectural and infrastructural landscape in the next five years.
With approximately 1,000 architects graduating annually in Bangladesh, Mahdi Amin stressed the importance of creating sufficient job opportunities within the country and facilitating access to master's and PhD programs abroad. He urged the IAB, University Grants Commission (UGC), and Bangladesh Accreditation Council to collaborate in strengthening ties with the Canberra Accord to ensure global recognition of Bangladeshi architectural degrees.
Additionally, the government is prepared to recruit more teachers and increase funding for public universities to modernize curricula, improve studio and laboratory facilities, and ensure a better teacher-student ratio.
The program was chaired by IAB President Architect Professor Dr. Sharif Shams Imon, with contributions from Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Dr. Md Akhtar Hossain Khan, South African architect Kevin Bingham, and other academics and architects.
