Tejgaon:The Textile and Jute Minister, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, announced that the government is actively working to transform raw jute into high-value products to boost foreign exchange earnings and revenue. This initiative was highlighted during the inauguration of a six-day "Multipurpose Jute Products Fair" and the opening of a new sales outlet, "JDPC EXPRESS," at the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) premises.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the government is not only focusing on readymade garments but is also promoting sectors like silk, handloom, and jute goods. A permanent showroom is set to be launched at JDPC to further these efforts and expand the market for jute products. The strategy aims to attract local buyers through fairs and exhibitions and raise awareness among international buyers.

Minister Muktadir emphasized the potential of converting raw jute into products such as sliver, packaging materials, and blended fibres to significantly increase their value. The government is coordinating with JDPC and private-sector entrepreneurs to create a plan for diversifying and expanding jute exports. At peak market prices, raw jute was valued at approximately Tk 1.5 lakh per tonne, but when processed into packaging products, it could fetch $2,400-$2,500 per tonne. Blended fibre products could earn even higher returns, around $4,000-$5,000 per tonne.

State Minister for Textiles and Jute, Shariful Alam, stated that the fair aims to promote local products in the domestic market and encourage the use of eco-friendly items over polythene. The government is also striving to enhance the recognition and use of the country's GI products, including multipurpose jute goods, Rajshahi silk, and handloom textiles. Shariful Alam noted that "JDPC EXPRESS" will function as a permanent outlet for diversified jute products, with plans to establish more showrooms in strategic locations.

The fair, aimed at increasing jute production and expanding the use of diversified jute products, will take place from October 3 to October 8, operating daily from 10 am to 8 pm. "JDPC EXPRESS" will remain open seven days a week, from 11 am to 8 pm, showcasing the potential of these products both domestically and internationally.
