Dhaka: The government has announced that starting tomorrow, any newspaper, online version, website, news portal, or electronic media outlet promoting gambling, betting, or pornography will be blocked without prior notice. This decisive action is part of a broader effort to curb the rise of such content on online platforms, which has been deemed a punishable offense under the Cyber Security Ordinance 2025 and the Pornography Control Act 2012.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, authorities have observed an increase in the promotion of gambling and adult content despite issuing repeated warnings to offenders. The government expressed gratitude towards platforms like Cricinfo, Janakantha, and Dhaka Post, which have revised their advertising policies to comply with the regulations.
Multiple agencies, including the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), National Security Intelligence (NSI), National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), are collaborating to enforce this directive. The joint effort aims to ensure a safe and ethical cyberspace for all users.
