Dhaka: The government has refuted a report published by Amar Desh on April 3, 2026, which claimed that 21 officials were set to visit three countries to learn about BTV Digital Broadcasting. The government has labeled this report as false, fabricated, and baseless.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting clarified that the project mentioned in the report is focused on installing advanced broadcasting equipment at 16 Bangladesh Television (BTV) centers and sub-centers nationwide to transition all centers to digital operations. The release highlighted that officials responsible for the project’s implementation were involved in training and pre-shipment inspections to ensure transparency from procurement to operation.
It was emphasized that costs for these activities are already covered in the project’s Development Project Proposal (DPP), and no additional government expenditure is required. The project terms specify that any incomplete activities could lead to fund cancellation, with no refunds possible, ensuring the government will not bear any costs for foreign visits.
Authorities further noted that 80% of the physical work and 95% of the financial allocation for the project have been completed. The report incorrectly suggested that the project was initiated during the previous Awami League government. However, the interim government has canceled all irrelevant projects initiated by the former regime.
