Accra:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced the government's commitment to advancing girls' education, safety, and dignity, ensuring a promising future for them. This announcement was made in a statement on the occasion of National Girl Child Day-2026, which will be observed tomorrow under the theme 'No More Child Marriage, Girls Will Conquer the World.'
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister Rahman emphasized that no girl's aspirations should be hindered by economic challenges, insecurity, or discrimination. He highlighted that it is the state's duty to provide a safe environment where girls can grow and pursue their dreams without restriction.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the contributions of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who introduced free education for girls up to Class XII. Building on this, the current government has extended free education opportunities for women up to the postgraduate level. He also linked women's political and economic empowerment to the need for a secure and supportive setting for girls.
To further bolster women's economic empowerment, the government is issuing 'Family Cards' in the names of female heads of households. Initiatives are also underway to enhance education, healthcare, nutrition, and social protection for girls and women.
Rahman stressed the importance of creating an environment where girls can freely learn, speak, and express themselves without fear. He called on families, society, educational institutions, and the state to work together to safeguard girls' safety, dignity, and rights in both physical and digital realms.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of education, rights, and equal opportunities for girls as vital to developing a healthy and educated society. He expressed the government's dedication to ensuring that a girl's education is uninterrupted and that she can advance according to her own choices and abilities.
He called for increased efforts to prevent child marriage and discrimination, aiming to secure a safe and equal future for every girl. On this occasion, he extended heartfelt congratulations to all girl children, their guardians, and the people of the country.
